In 1907 the CPR announced Shaughnessy Heights as a planned neighbourhood of large lots, curving streets and lush gardens. Many houses built before 1940 follow revival styles such as Tudor Revival, Arts and Crafts, Craftsman and Colonial Revival. Painting them well means protecting landscaping, respecting original materials and prepping detailed trim by hand.
If your home is inside the First Shaughnessy Heritage Conservation Area, bordered by 16th Avenue, King Edward Avenue, Arbutus Street and Oak Street, City rules apply. Repainting in the same colours is exempt from a heritage alteration permit. A colour change is not on the exempt list, so confirm with the City of Vancouver before you choose new colours. We build that check into the schedule.
